A weather vane or weathercock due to the traditional cockerel design that featured on them is an instrument for showing the direction of the wind mounted on a chimney top or highest point of a building. Although partly functional, weather vanes are generally decorative pieces atop of a roof building, farmhouses or ornate structures. Most weathervanes feature an arrow pointing the direction of the wind, with a larger 'tail end' to catch the wind. The four compass points often accompany the weathervane below showing a more accurate direction for the wind if it has been positioned accurately. Other common motifs include the ship, arrows and horses. The word 'vane' comes from the Old English word fana meaning 'flag'.
Heritage Gardens is pleased to supply 100% British handmade top class weathervanes. All are constructed of solid steel and coated in a durable black antique polyester paint.
Buy one as a gift as weathervanes make excellent presents and will add an attractive and practical feature for any home or garden buildings such as a shed or summerhouse.
